You did a great job with reading your excerpt. This excerpt was very informative and you can tell what is happening to in the story. Jamal is going through a lot as a twelve year old and focused to become a man. This is an important book and it will shape a lot of children lives and relate to Jamal struggles.
Hey Vanessa! I love the excerpts you’ve selected and how you related them to your own experiences while living in Flatbush. It goes to show how this book isn’t just about a fictional character; it is truly something that many can connect with. You read the excerpts perfectly! Your tone for the father definitely had that authoritative vibe to it. All in all, great presentation!
Hi Vanessa! I never heard this story before, but you did a great job explaining it and giving away the plot. The intonation changes in your voice add such a good touch to the presentation. great job!

I have not heard of the book Scorpion. I think the excerpt you chose highlights the character’s feelings when interacting with his family. I believe the readers could relate to Jamal’s experience and his struggle as he grows into young adulthood. It shows the shift of responsibility and the difficulties of an emotionally neglectful father. Hearing the excerpt from later in the book shows how Jamal is forced to take on a role he didn’t want to and the consequences that come from it.
